Getinet Woyessa was born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in 1987. He received the B.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from Haramaya University, Dire Dawa, Ethiopia, in 2008, the Erasmus Mundus joint master’s degree in photonic network engineering (MAPNET) from Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, Pisa, Italy, and Aston University, Birmingham, U.K., in 2013, and the Ph.D. degree in photonics engineering from the Fiber Sensors and Supercontinuum Group, Department of Photonics Engineering, Technical University of Denmark (DTU), Lyngby, Denmark, in 2017, as a part of the Marie Curie initial training network (ITN) Project Training and Research Involving Polymer Optical Devices (TRIPOD).
From 2017 to 2020, he has been a Postdoctoral Researcher on mid infrared pulsed laser and long wavelength supercontinuum generation under the H2020 FLying ultrA-broadband single-shot InfraRed sensor (FLAIR) Project. During his Ph.D. and postdoctoral studies, he joined and worked with distinguished research groups, including the Aston Institute of Photonic Technologies (AIPT), Birmingham; the Nanophotonics Research Laboratory, Cyprus University of Technology, Limassol, Cyprus; the Center for Ultrahigh Bandwidth Devices for Optical Systems (CUDOS) is a research consortium involving several Australian Research Institutes including the University of Sydney (headquarters), the Australian National University, Macquarie University, Macquarie Park, NSW, Australia, Swinburne University of Technology, and the University of Technology Sydney. It has also partnerships and associations with scientists across the globe; the MQ Photonics Research Centre, Department of Physics and Astronomy, Macquarie University; and the Department of Physics and Astronomy, Cyprus University of Technology. Currently, he is a Research Scientist with a focus on fabrication of speciality optical fibers, optical fiber materials, fiber sensors, and their applications. He has published more than 68 journal and conference papers, and book chapters, and patent with 1527 Google-Scholar (GS) citations, giving him GS H-index of 19.
