His research focuses on robust distributed coordination and control, specifically in the context of smart electric distribution networks. Specific interests include smart grids, smart metering, distributed control, robust system design, sustainability, industry 4.0, infrastructure interdependencies and dependability modelling, all in a context of energy and communication infrastructures. Both simulation and experimental validation are key. In this field, he has authored and co-authored over 440 publications in international journals and conference proceedings. He authored or co-authored 7 books and edited 4 more. On Web-of-Science, 225 publications are listed with 914 citations and an h-index of 16; Google Scholar count 5088 citations, and h=34. He has been principle investigator in projects, worth over 10 M budget over the last 5 years. (BOF-GOA, Hercules, European projects, IWT, FWO, VLAIO, NGInfra, bilateral with industry, etc.). Up to July 2018, he has been (co)supervisor for 33 successful PhDs, and is currently supervisor or co-supervisor of 9 PhD students.
