个人简介
His first research steps were with the PIUMA project, an ambulatory blood pressure monitoring database started in Central Italy together with his mentor Carlo Porcellati and his friend Paolo Verdecchia. Schillaci's work in this field provided important contributions in support to the prognostic value of different variables derived from 24 h Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring, including night time blood pressure levels, nocturnal dipping patterns and blood pressure variability. His research activities also included studies on left ventricular hypertrophy, contributing to the worldwide acknowledged “Perugia score” to identify the electrocardiographic presence of left ventricular hypertrophy. More recently, Prof. Schillaci extended his research interests to the field of arterial pulse wave analysis and arterial stiffness, where he has provided original contributions on the features of arterial wall properties in different clinical conditions. I am proud to remember the stimulating work we carried out together in defining the actual meaning of a recently proposed prognostic marker, the “ambulatory arterial stiffness index”, as well as in highlighting for the first time the close link existing between aortic stiffness and short term systolic blood pressure variability over 24 hours, in cooperation with prof. Stéphane Laurent and prof. Pierre Boutouyrie in Paris.
