My research interests centre on the genetic background of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) both related to susceptibility and severity. I also study pharmacogenetics, specifically the identification of genetic and epigenetic biomarkers predictive of response to Methotrexate and anti-TNF therapies.

Using molecular and cellular biology I examine the relationship between genotype and phenotype and the roles of proteins in immune and tissue damaging activities. This has recently resulted in the identification of previously poorly characterised proteins such as MACIR and PAM, both modify the autoaggressive activities of RA synovial fibroblasts.

I also study monogenic autoinflammatory disorders, including Behcet's Disease and chronic non-bacterial osteomyelitis, using whole exome sequencing and laboratory techniques to determine their pathobiology.
