My research focusses on the interaction between cardiomyocytes and fibroblasts in the heart in healthy conditions and during various kinds of cardiac disease, such as ischemic heart disease, hypertensive heart disease and cardiomyopathies. Mechanistic studies in primary isolated cardiac cells (cardiomyocytes and fibroblasts) and iPSC-derived cardiomyocytes in 3D-culture enable the distinction between direct electro-mechanical interaction and the effect of paracrine and endocrine factors.
