个人简介
Francisco Javier Díez was born in Burgos (Spain) on June 12, 1965.
He was a member of the first Spanish team at an International Mathematical Olympiad (Paris, 1983).
He received a B.S. in Physics from the UNED (Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia / Spanish University for Distance Education) in 1986 and a M.S. in Theoretical Physics from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (see Dpto. Física Teórica) in 1986.
In 1992 he was a visiting scholar for three months at the Computer Science Department of UCLA, invited by Prof. Judea Pearl.
He got his Ph.D. in July 1994 at the Dpto. de Informática y Automática (Dept. of Computer Science and Automatics) of the UNED, with a thesis on artificial intelligence entitled Sistema Experto Bayesiano para Ecocardiografía (Bayesian Expert System for Echocardiography), under the supervision of Prof. José Mira, which was awarded the Fundesco Prize for Doctoral Dissertations, delivered by the Spanish Minister for Education and Science on June 27, 1995.
He is currently associate professor at the Department of Artificial Intelligence at the UNED. His main research areas are the management of uncertainty in artificial intelligence, especially with Bayesian networks and influence diagrams, and the construction of medical expert systems.
He was "principal investigator" in the two phases of the Elvira project and in the project Diagnostic Systems Based on Graphical Decision-Theoretic Methods, a join collaboration of the USA, Poland and Spain. Currently he is the "principal investigator" of the project Decision Analysis Networks and also takes part in the DyNaMo project, a join collaboration of Mexico, France, United Kingdom, The Netherlands, and Spain.
He is the founder and director of the Research Center on Intelligent Decision-Support Systems (CISIAD), which was created by the Board of Directors of the UNED on May 6, 2004.
He is the coordinator of the Official Postgraduate Program Artificial Intelligence and Computer Systems, coordinator at UNED of the PhD Inter-university Program Probabilistic Models for Artificial Intelligence and Data Mining and director of the Modular Program Tools for Health Management and Research.
On September 14 1996, he married María del Carmen Navarro. They have four children: Nuria, born on December 6 1997, Inés (Agnes), born on August 8, 2000, Miguel (Michael), born on July 23, 2004, and Juan Andrés (John Andrew), born on October 1, 2009.
