F. J. Wessel

Dr. Wessel invented the Staged Z-pinch Fusion Concept, based on his work dealing with a pinch-on-target, Z-pinch in the 80's and 90's, at the Univ.CA, Irvine; the Ecole Polytechnique, France; Maxwell Labs, San Diego, CA; and Angara-5, in Triniti, Russia. The SZP is described in published papers and 2 patents, one on fusion, another on radionuclides. He has also pioneered methods to inject intense-ion beams into a magnetized plasma for fusion plasma heating and as a energetic-ion diagnostic.
