Bio
Dr. Douglas Evans was a professor at Trent for 36 years. His research remains focussed on the geochemical control of trace metal and radionuclide distribution in the environment, particularly as it relates to the uptake of these substances by aquatic organisms.
Dr. Evans obtained Trent’s first ICP-MS through an NSERC Major Equipment Grant in the early 90s. Since then he has pioneered work in the use of stable isotopes as tracers of geochemical processes. This has included the development of techniques to simultaneously measure competing processes, for eg. uptake and depuration of metals such as Zn and Cd. He has also developed methods for determining the binding of trace metals to naturally-occurring ligands such as dissolved organic carbon, methods for measuring biological fractionation of metal isotopes and methods for the rapid measurement of radionuclides.
