Trace Elements in Coal and Coal Byproducts • Separations research including sorbents, catalysts, photochemical methods, and electrochemical membranes • Flue gas cleanup research and development, including mercury and carbon dioxide capture • Fuel gas cleanup research and development, including mercury, arsenic, selenium, phosphorus and carbon dioxide removal • Oxygen separation research, including sorbent development • Rare earth and other critical element detection and separation research • Broad experimental background in heterogeneous catalysis and sorbents, especially noble metals, metal oxides, and activated carbons • Strong background in the usage and theory of solid electrolyte chemical sensors, including zirconia-based oxygen sensors and alumina-based hydrogen sensors • Experience in using analytical equipment and instrumentation, such as solid electrolyte sensors, gas chromatographs, mass spectrometers, atomic fluorescence spectrophotometers, and gas flow systems • Knowledge of petroleum, natural gas, coal, municipal solid waste, and municipal sludge processing • Experience with photochemical reactions involving ozone and mercury • Experience and knowledge of carbon sequestration research • Project proposal writing and review • Enjoy working with others, and motivating colleagues to excel
