As a nephrologist, I diagnose and manage kidney disease. I specialize in treating people who have kidney disease and cancer. I manage kidney conditions that develop as a result of cancer, such as multiple myeloma, or after immunotherapy or other cancer treatment. In addition, I treat people who develop cancer after receiving a kidney transplant.

I assess kidney function and determine whether a person’s medication dose should be adjusted, so cancer treatment can continue. Sometimes, a person who is experiencing the side effects of a medication should stop taking it. When necessary, I refer people for a kidney biopsy. If the kidneys stop functioning, dialysis may be needed.

I strive to get to know patients and earn their trust. I take time to explain their condition, so they understand why a particular treatment is necessary. I always have a plan, even when treatment is challenging. I let people know that if Plan A does not work, we shift to Plan B or Plan C.
