Dr. Kazerooni's clinical and research interests focuses on advanced CT and MR applications; technology assessment and outcomes research; patient care operations, quality and safety. With a Masters Degree in Clinical Research Design & Statistical Analysis, her research focuses on the development and evaluation of advanced imaging technologies as applied to cardiothoracic diseases and screening, including lung cancer screening, interstitial lung disease, emphysema, lung transplantation, pulmonary vascular disease, and cardiovascular CT and MR. This includes evaluating the technologies at several levels, from safety to validity and reliability, reader agreement and impact on medical decision making. As Chair of the Committee on Lung Cancer Screening for the American College of Radiology, she has worked to bring the science of lung cancer screening to safe and effective clinical practice, spearheading the development of LungRADS structured reporting and management, the ACR-STR practice parameter for performing and interpreting lung cancer screening CT and the ACR designated lung cancer screening program as part of CT accreditation, and leads the ACR's efforts in advocacy for coverage and reimbursement to bring this life saving test to patients, and the American Cancer Society’s national roundtable, with the aim of creating lung cancer survivors.
