个人简介
Eduardo Garzanti, Professor in Stratigraphy and Sedimentology at the University of Milano-Bicocca since 2001, has a long experience in the geology of the Himalayas, obtained since 1981 during eleven scientific expeditions carried out within projects MURST and CNR to Pakistan, India, Nepal, South Tibet, and the Bengal Sea.
He is author of 150 articles, most of which published in international peer-review journals (bibliometric parameters: H-index 32, #citations 3491), and about half of which dedicated to various aspects of Himalayan geology, including the Paleozoic history, the opening of Neotethys, the sedimentary history of the Tethys Himalayan passive margin and of the Transhimalayan active margin, and the paleotectonic evolution during and after Paleocene/Eocene collision of India and Asia.
In subsequent years he focused on provenance models inferred from analysis of both detrital modes and dense mineral suites of Tertiary to Holocene sediments issued from the Alpine-Himalayan Orogen.
Most recent scientific work, carried out in open collaboration with researchers of British, French, Northamerican and Indian institutions and published or in press in most prominent geological journals, include the petrographic and mineralogical study of modern sands in Asian (Indus, Ganga, Brahmaputra, Ayeyarwadi), African (Nile, Orange, Congo, Zambesi) and European (Po, Rhône, Danube) big river systems, and of Tertiary terrigenous successions accumulated in foreland basins associated with the Himalayan (from Pakistan to India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Myanmar, and the Andaman Islands) and the Alps-Apennine orogenic systems.
He is among the proponents of the project on the Indus turbidite Fan approved for operations by the IODP Science Planning Committee.
