Bio
Eric P. Carlson received the B.Sc. degree in physics from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Blacksburg, in 1994.
He has been with HY-Tech Research Corporation, Radford, VA, for ten years. His activities have included X-ray spectroscopic measurements of high-density $Z$-pinch plasmas, laser interferometric measurements of high-density $Z$-pinch plasmas, design of high-resolution X-ray spectrometers, as well the engineering of vacuum system and controls for HY-Tech Research Corporation's unique cathodic arc-deposition facility for boron, boron carbide, and other nonmetal cathode materials. In a collaborative work with Caterpillar, Inc., he was involved in closed-loop control sensor development for nanostructured wear coating deposition. In this study, he was responsible for the development of the vacuum and control systems for the portable RF-OGA system, as well as measurement and interpretation.
