Bio
I have spent my entire professional career investigating immunopathologic processes, beginning during my fellowship in Sweden on ultrastructure of Burkitt lymphoma cells in the laboratory of Dr. Georg Klein. I continued my work during my pathology residency in the laboratory of Dr. Harold Dvorak in Boston, where I investigated the role of macrophages and basophils in the immune response. In my career in Utah, I focused my expertise on investigation of cancer biomarkers and the immunopathologic aspects of cardiac transplant rejection, being a founding member of the U.T.A.H. Cardiac Transplant Program in Salt Lake City, Utah. Systematic investigation and data collection of pathology and outcome variables has continued from 1985-present and has resulted in scientific publications that established the adverse impact of antibody mediated rejection in heart transplantation.
My efforts to improve testing for biomarkers have involved national and international educational seminars and the development of collaborative tumor markers guidelines (ASCO and CAP) and the establishment of a center for guideline development within the College of American Pathologists.
