• Development of novel and innovative routes for synthesis of nanoparticles and novel nanophosphors in the powder and thin films forms.
• Synthesis of nanoparticles in colloidal form.
• Synthesis of materials for luminescence enhancement in the Mid-IR spectral region for application in advanced fibre lasers.
• Synthesis of new photocatalysts and study of their photocatalytic properties and possible application for improved solar water splitting.
• Structural analysis of novel nanophosphors (oxides, vanadates, phosphates, circonates, suphides, hafnates doped with rare earth ions), semiconductor nanoparticles and polymer nanocomposites.
• Optical characterization of luminescent nanophosphors and thin films using photoluminescent spectroscopy techniques (UV-vis, FTIR, PL).
• Detailed structural, morphological and photoluminescent characterization of rare earth doped nanomaterials.
• Correlation between structural and photoluminescent properties.
• Applications of nanoparticles in biology and medicine: chemical and (bio)sensors, therapeutics, phototherapy, antimicrobial agents, transfection vectors, and fluorescent labels.
