I'm interested in how animals evolved to deal with daily, seasonal or rare energetic bottlenecks. One focus is how this, via information transfer and social foraging, can lead to sociality depending on resource ephemerality and ecological niche in bats. Another is on the correlated morphology and physiology. I test hypotheses derived from work on temperate zone species testing them in the tropics, and energetic strategies, especially winter adaptations in high-metabolic shrews and weasels.
