My research has focused on determining optimal clinical strategies and identifying opportunities for improvement in the prevention, treatment and outcome of cardiovascular disease. These research efforts are intended to provide critical information to improve the quality of health care, monitor changes over time, and guide decisions about the allocation of scarce health care resources. The main aim of my research is to improve the care and outcomes of patients, for those prior to the development of disease as well as those with existing conditions.

My research work is highly relevant to policy makers in Canada and in the United States. In 2014, I received the Article of the Year Award from the CIHR Institute of Health Services and Policy Research. I am currently the only Canadian selected to be the Senior Editor for the leading cardiovascular health services journal (Circulation: Cardiovascular Quality and Outcomes). I am also the only Canadian serving on the American Heart Association Quality of Care and Outcomes Research (QCOR) Leadership Council to guide research directions in my field. I have published > 300 peer-reviewed publications. I have delivered > 200 invited scientific and media presentations, including multiple presentations in Late Breaking Scientific Session.
