Dr David Rose is Associate Professor in Social Work, Director of Learning and Teaching- Department of Social Work and Director of Learning and Teaching- Melbourne School of Health Sciences. He teaches in the areas of the legal and ethical context of practice, mental health and program design and evaluation and supervises a number of postgraduate research candidates.
Prior to commencing in a full time academic position in 2010 he had 20 years practice experience as a Social Worker including working in a number of direct practice, organisational development, program design and evaluation, management and consulting roles in government and non-government organisations. His direct practice experience is in the areas of mental health, alcohol and other drug treatment, family support and offender support and treatment. He is experienced in qualitative, quantitative and mixed method research and evaluation and current areas of research interest include the impact of drug using in families, offender support and transition programs, trauma and post-traumatic growth, children and families across borders in the international context, family violence, collective impact and the role of program design and evaluation in human service contexts. He regularly consults to non-government organisations on program design and evaluation including developing program theory of change, program logic models and evaluation frameworks. He was previously President of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)- Victorian Branch and is currently Secretary- Asian and Pacific Association of Social Work Education (APASWE).
