个人简介
Involved in acupuncture research since 1998. Compiled the first Western textbook on electroacupuncture (EA) between 1996 and 2005. Research supervisor on MSc and BSc courses at the former London College of Traditional Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (2007-10); since 2008, a member of the British Acupuncture Council research advisory Committee, and also a visiting research associate at the University of Hertfordshire. Under the guidance of Professor Tim Watson, together with the experienced neurofeedback consultant Tony Steffert, he has been researching the effects of electroacupuncture (EA) and TENS on the brain (EEG) and heart (HRV) at the University since 2011. He has also explored the relationship between expectation and experience of feelings and sensations in treatment, and the influence of individual response styles on questionnaire completion. He has published reviews of EA for migraine, sciatica and peripheral facial paralysis, as well as results of a survey on the teaching of EA in North America. Led a Delphi process on what constitutes traditional acupuncture, and a survey-based investigation of the meaning of the term ‘nonspecific’ in acupuncture research. Has also reviewed the clinical applications and endorphin mechanisms of EA, and the neuroanatomical correlates of acupuncture points, and coordinated an international survey into the current uses of electroacupuncture. Has also conducted research into the cultural history of vitalism and qi.
