个人简介
Dave Hutchins’ research interests revolve around using experimental methods in the laboratory and the field to understand the consequences of anthropogenic global change processes for ocean biology and biogeochemistry. His lab group has worked in marine environments ranging from the tropics to the polar seas to understand the ecological impacts of ocean acidification, warming, and deoxygenation using tools that include physiological, biochemical, biogeochemical and ‘omics methods. Particular interests in Hutchins’ lab include applying experimental evolution techniques to predict the adaptive responses of marine microbes to a changing environment, and studies that aim to understand the interactions between ocean warming and phytoplankton nutrient- and micronutrient limitation. Recent work has also addressed causes and implications of increasing toxic harmful algal blooms for human and environmental health in a changing climate. A new research emphasis involves building collaborations with Earth system modelers to understand how global change will affect the nutrient and carbon cycles mediated by marine micro-organisms.
