Daniel P. Mears is a Distinguished Research Professor and the Mark C. Stafford Professor of Criminology in Florida State University’s College of Criminology and Criminal Justice, and a Fellow of the American Society of Criminology. He conducts research on crime causation, criminal and juvenile justice, and policy and practice. As a Principal Investigator and lead researcher, he has conducted studies funded by federal agencies, such as the National Council on Disability, National Institute of Justice, National Institute on Drug Abuse, and the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, by state agencies, including the Florida Department of Corrections, and by foundations, including the California Endowment, Hogg Foundation for Mental Health, Joyce Foundation, and William and Flora Hewlett Foundation. In addition to receiving teaching, mentoring, and service awards, he has been ranked as one of the top lead or sole-author publishers in criminology1 and as a top-10 most influential criminologist.
