Bio
Known as the Jim Morrison of shock physics, for innovative solutions to difficult or "impossible" problems, and powerful and flexible products that have a long service life. I enjoy finding adaptable and efficient approaches, backed by a thorough understanding of the physics, rigorous standards, and clear communications. I take pride in building effective teams where people have maximum opportunity for development. I'm up-front about problems, but prefer to encourage rather than enforce.
I've worked mostly in defense and energy science ("extreme conditions" of shock physics and high-density plasmas), but have interests in advanced technology and problem-solving more broadly. I feel honored to have recruited and mentored a series of outstanding people, and I’ve been lucky to have worked with and learned from exceptional scientists whose experience spans piston fighter design, algebraic solutions, and numerical calculations from a room of people operating hand calculators to the latest theoretical and experimental approaches, using the world’s most powerful lasers and fastest supercomputers.
