He developed world’s-first trench power metal-oxide semiconductor field-effect transistor and trench insulated-gate bipolar transistor with anode-short structure from 1980 to 1987. Since 1987, he has been working on the development of compound semiconductor devices.
He worked on the industrialization of a variety of GaAs devices and processes, such as front-end monolithic microwave integrated circuit with on-chip Barium Strontium Titanate capacitor, microwave switch with super self-aligned technology, spike-gate power field-effect transistor with high-power added efficiency, and novel gate-orientation arrangement to obtain zero-temperature coefficient. He currently devoted his efforts to the practical realization of III-nitride devices from optical to microwave devices. He has authored or co-authored over 100 technical papers and holds over 80 patents. He was the recipient of the Okochi-Prize for the achievements of those GaAs and monolithic microwave integrated circuits in 1996, twice and Power Amplifiers in 2002. He is a fellow of the Information, Electronics and Communication Engineers (IEICE). He also had been serving as a Vice Chair of Electronic Society, IEICE, (2000–2002), a Chair of ED Technical Working Group, IEICE, (1998–2000), an EDL Editor (1998–2003), and a Chair of IEEE Kansai Chapter (2001–2003). He is a member of IEICE and Japan Society of Applied Physics.
