Diego Sánchez-González is a geographer and gerontologist, PhD in Geography and Master in Social Gerontology for University of Granada (Spain). At the moment, he is professor (full) of the Department of Geography of the National Distance Education University (UNED) (Spain). Previously, he has been a professor of the Autonomous University of Madrid (Spain), Autonomous University of Nuevo Leon (Mexico), Autonomous University of Tamaulipas (Mexico), and assistant professor of EADE-University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UK). Also, he has taught the "Hall of Elders of City Granada" at the University of Granada.
His scientific production (books, articles) has been developed in the area of knowledge of Human Geography, especially, geography of aging-environmental gerontology: population ageing and its socio-spatial implications; as the environment, health and quality of life of older adults; aging and climate change: vulnerability and resilience; age-friendly cities and communities to active and healthy ageing; planning of health and social services; residential strategies and old age; family structures and dependency care networks; disability; processes of urbanization and rural depopulation; and tourism and the older people.
Sánchez-González has experience in training activities at the undergraduate and postgraduate level (ANECA and CONACYT) in Spanish Universities (University of Barcelona, Polytechnic University of Catalonia, University of Seville, University of Vigo, University of Granada, Autonomous University of Madrid) and Mexican Universities (National Autonomous University of Mexico, National Polytechnic Institute, Tecnológico de Monterrey, University of Guadalajara, National Institute of Public Health, Autonomous University of Nuevo Leon, Autonomous University of Tamaulipas, University Veracruzana, Autonomous University of Ciudad Juárez, The Colegio de Sonora-CONACYT, Autonomous University of the State of Morelos, Autonomous University of Durango, University of the Northeast), where he has managed 15 doctoral theses (PhD Thesis), 12 theses of master's degree, and 28 undergraduate theses (TFG).
He has also been coordinator of several quality postgraduate programs in Universities of Mexico, Member of the Academic Committee of the Board of Directors; and Director of Postgraduate and Research of the Faculty of Architecture of the Autonomous University of Nuevo Leon.
He's a Accredited Professor of Human Geography for National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation of Spain, ANECA (Spain), of the Secretariat of Higher Education (Mexico), and is member of the National System of Researchers (Level II) of the National Council of Science and Technology, CONACYT (Mexico).
Sánchez-González has been a researcher of the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation for Development AECID (Spain). Also, he has also been director and researcher of research projects and consulting projects (Inter-American Development Bank, European Union, Spain, France and Mexico); as well as evaluator of research projects (Spain, Holland, Switzerland, Israel, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Uruguay). Currently, He serves on the editorial boards of journals, and referee of international journals indexed by JCR-Thomson Reuters and Scopus. He has participated in the organization of scientific events in Spain and Mexico. Also, he has received the National Research Award FECIC (Mexico), as well as several awards from public bodies and scientific associations in Mexico and Spain.
