个人简介
Based on his research he is a founder the university spin-out, Mode Diagnostics. He worked for Ion Torrent Inc. that successfully commercialised his CMOS sensor technology for use in the personal genome machine. In the past 10 years his group has established a world-wide reputation for delivering integrated sensor systems and technologies for biomedical and imaging markets. The research has been funded by EU, EPSRC, SFC and UK industry. He is a FIEEE and FIET, and holds a Royal Society Wolfson Merit Award.
The research work of the Microsystems Technology Group at the University of Glasgow makes full use of the analog/digital/mixed signal VLSI design and test facilities of the Glasgow Electronics Design Centre, and the custom device fabrication facilities of the James Watt Nanofabication Centre. We collaborate extensively with engineers, biotechnologists, medics, vets, and computer scientists at a number of other UK and overseas universities. Our research has led to the spin-out company Mode Diagnostics that makes a fecal occult blood diagnostic kit, and led to the sensor chips at the heart of the Ion Torrent Personal Genome Machine. At present the group has 9 post doctoral researchers and 8 PhD students, with a £7M funding portfolio for sensors systems research.
