My research focuses on the clouds of gas surrounding the SMBHs and accretion disks in AGN, particularly in nearby Seyfert galaxies, to characterize the physical mechanisms by which the gas is accreted, ionized, and, especially, ejected in the form of winds. My observations come primarily from spectrographs on the the Hubble Space Telescope and integral field units on large ground-based telescopes. I also make use of other space-based observations in the X-ray and infrared regions of the spectrum, as well as photoionization and kinematic models in conjunction with my colleagues. The ultimate goal of my research is to obtain a complete physical model of the geometry and dynamics of AGN winds as well as an understanding of their impact on their surroundings.
