Dr. Engmann has extensive experience in the research, policy, program, advocacy, and strategic health leadership spheres, and he has led, shaped, or played leadership roles in numerous global initiatives, including the Every Newborn Action Plan, Nurturing Care for Early Childhood Development Framework, Global Preterm Research Consortium, and Maternal Immunization Network. Internationally, he is the Board Chair of the 20-year, $271 million Child Health and Mortality Prevention Surveillance (CHAMPS) research project and serves on the Steering Committees for the World Economic Forum, the Swiss National Science Foundation, and the Adara Group. He is also a Lancet Commissioner.
Dr. Engmann has authored over 130 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters, white papers, and abstracts. He is board certified in Pediatrics and Neonatology and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Society for Pediatric Research, and the American Pediatric Society—an honor reserved for individuals who have distinguished themselves as child health leaders, teachers, scholars, policymakers, and clinicians and whose important contributions are recognized nationally and internationally.
Dr. Engmann has dedicated his life to combating social injustice and health inequity, and he is passionate about driving organizational impact through strategic, interdisciplinary, purpose-driven partnerships. Over his career, he has led or been part of multidisciplinary teams to receive over $800 million dollars in research and program funding. He is strongly committed to using data evidence to improve the human condition and put bold solutions into action.
