Cintia graduated in Psychology with the best grade point average in 2006 in her home country, Argentina. She worked as a clinical psychologist back home for over 6 years treating adult patients with anxiety, depression, borderline personality disorders and eating disorders. Cintia was trained in different psychological therapies, i.e. systemic therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, and dialectical behavioural therapy. She also worked part-time as a teaching assistant on the BSc Psychology programme for 3 years in Argentina.
Cintia came to Manchester in 2012 when she was awarded the School of Psychological Sciences PhD Studentship, University of Manchester. Her project was focused on understanding the emotion of pride in restrictive eating disorders and developed a measure to assess pride in eating pathology. She was supervised by Dr John Fox, Dr Trish Gooding, Dr Stephanie Tierney and Dr Sarah Peters. In 2016 she successfully completed her PhD in Clinical Psychology. She also contributed as a teaching assistant for the BSc and the MRes in Psychology programmes.
From January 2016 until January 2019 she worked in Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Trust as a Senior Researcher in the PATHWAY NIHR Grant Programme led by Professor Adrian Wells. The aim of the project was to evaluate metacognitive therapy in cardiac rehabilitation patients experiencing anxiety and/or depression. Cintia is currently undertaking formal training in metacognitive therapy.
By the end of January 2019 Cintia joined the EQUITy NIHR Grant Programme as a Research Associate. The overarching aim of the project is to improve the quality of telephone-delivered psychological interventions, increase patient engagement, and enhance the clinical and cost-effectiveness of psychological interventions delivered by telephone in primary care.
