Experienced in designing and implementing complex systems with unique challenges, such as real-time implementation with limited SW&P (size weight and power) constraints, extremely large data volumes, long-term operation, challenging visualization and interaction models, and unsolved algorithm requirements. Dr. Stauffer is a visiting scientist collaborating on leading research at the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) and provides technical solutions and guidance to academic, commercial, and defense entities through Visionary Systems and Research (VSR).
He has over a decade of experience in building real-time computer vision and pattern recognition systems including building one of the first and longest running intelligent visual surveillance systems at MIT. Dr. Stauffer and Dr. W. E. L. Grimson were awarded the Longuet-Higgins Prize for lasting contributions to Computer Vision for their work in Adaptive Background Subtraction with over 4000 citations. continues leading edge research in the area of intelligent video surveillance, camera calibration, multi-target multi-camera tracking, advanced activity understanding, machine learning, large data processing, mobile device development, and automated behavior analysis.
