Her research interests are on Wireless Sensor Networks and Internet of Things, with emphasis to the study of channel access protocols (MAC layer) and of routing algorithms, together with the technologies IEEE 802.15.4/Zigbee, LoRaWan and NB-IoT. Recently she has started working on Terahertz communications for IoT industrial applications. Since 2004, she has collaborated with some European Projects such as the Network of Excellence in Wireless Communications (NEWCOM) funded by the European Commission (EC) within the FP6; CRUISE, which is another Network of Excellence funded by the EC within FP6; NEWCOM++ and NEWCOM#, follow-up of NEWCOM; FP6 Artemis project, eDIANA, being the Leader of the Task devoted to “Communications and Topology”; FP7 project WiserBAN, being the Leader of the Tasks devoted to “Low-power BAN protocols” and “BAN multi-node platform”, the Leader of WP7, dealing with “Dissemination, Exploitation and Training” and the Dissemination Manager; NEWCOM# project, where she acted as Responsible of the European laboratory of wireless communications for the future Internet, EuWIn@UniBO Laboratory on IoT. She has been involved in the RIGERS project, coordinating activities for the development of a smart city testbed based on LoRa in the city fo Bologna. In the period 2016-2019 she has been Co-Chair of the Experimental Working Group on IoT of COST Action CA15104. She is currently Principal Investigator of the COST Innovators' Grant Pilot IG15104, Industrial Machine Monitoring Unplugged Network (IMMUNet) for the development of a radio communication system for the monitoring of industrial machines. Since 2012 she is "Intel Early Career Faculty Member". She won the national award for the 2010 GTTI Best Ph.D. Thesis and she was a co-recipient of a Best paper award at the IEEE ICUMT Conference. In September 2012 she has been Enseignant Chercheur Invitè presso il Laboratorio del CNRS, LIMOS a Clermont-Ferrand, France. She has been involved in many industrial projects with NEC, CEFLA, Embit and GD. She is author of approximately 100 papers, most of them IEEE. She is member of IEEE and she acts as TPC member of many IEEE conferences.
