My expertise is in the discipline of Systems Neuroscience and the field of neurochemical and anatomical analysis of central neuronal systems within the basal ganglia thalamocortical system. I have a long career history in the development and application of in vivo electrochemical techniques to identify neuronal systems and mechanisms underlying neurological and psychiatric disorders. As the Associate Director of Research for the NEL, I am responsible for overseeing all aspects of the program and structure of research for all of the graduate students, post-docs, and junior faculty in the NEL, mentoring of these students and faculty, and chairing weekly meetings. In addition, I currently teach several core graduate courses (Molecular and Cellular Neuroscience and Systems Neuroscience and Behavior) in the Neuroscience track. As well, I am well versed in grantsmanship for International and Federal Institute funding agencies (e.g., NIH UG3/UH2-with or with clinical trial requirements, R01, R21, R30, R32, and SBIR/STTR applications; total 32 successes). I am currently the PI on two active NIH R01s and also I am conducting a clinical study in collaboration with Cala Health Inc using PET to measure brain metabolic changes after transcutaneous stimulation in Essential Tremor subjects.
