个人简介
Dr Yap has been working in optimising management of behavioural emergencies research over the past 8 years. Dr Yap’s PhD research has focussed on optimising management of behavioural emergencies in emergency departments (EDs).
It was comprised of four main components: a multicentre randomised clinical trial, a multicentre prospective observational study, an economic evaluation, and a qualitative study. During her PhD, she has conducted in-depth interviews with patients who had presented to the ED during their crises and were sedated and restrained. A number of the participants admitted having alcohol or drug addiction issues. By listening to their stories, she has developed a better understanding of the complex issues that are faced by them. Her current works intend to explore model of care that can improve quality of care for patients at risk of receiving coercive interventions in the hospital setting.
