个人简介
As a secondary school mathematics teacher and as a teacher educator, I became interested in the difficulties students experienced in making effective use of mathematical language. The nature of mathematical communication within different practices of mathematics and mathematics education continues to be a focus. The variation in access to the language of schooling and the associated educational disadvantage faced by some groups of students frame my interest in different forms of curriculum, pedagogy and assessment and the ways these affect the distribution of knowledge. My research adopts a critical discourse approach to these issues and seeks to develop analytic tools for understanding how language and other modes of communication are used in mathematical activity.
