I am a geomicrobiologist interested in the impact of microbial communities on sedimentary environments, specially in lakes. I focus on the diversity, structure and activity of sedimentary microbial communities in relation to sedimentary facies, authigenic/diagenetic minerals and organic matter to access the full potential of sedimentary rocks as paleoenvironmental archives: this includes the study of lake sediments and the subsurface biosphere, as well as microbial mats and fossil microbialites.
