Her areas of interest include the methodological and conceptual aspects of the evaluation of Maternal and Perinatal Health Programmes in low and middle income countries and the measurement of maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality. She has a particular interest in understanding and addressing inequity in access to maternal and perinatal health care, including access to emergency obstetric care and caesarean sections. She has extensive work experience in Asia (Bangladesh, Indonesia and China), and Africa (Benin, Chad, Ivory Coast, Morocco, Senegal, Tanzania). She recently completed a three-year secondment to Sichuan University, China, where she worked on understanding the health systems factors that contributed to China's success in maternal and newborn health
