个人简介
Carlo Riva was born in Italy in 1965. He received the Laurea degree (cum laude) in electronic engineering from the Politecnico di Milano, Italy, in 1990 with a graduating thesis related to optical fibres, after a stage with SIRTI S.p.A.. In 1992 he worked with European Space Research and Technology Centre, Noordwijk, The Netherlands, for a stage on low availability satellite telecommunication systems. In 1993 he worked with the Université Catholique de Louvain, Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium, for a stage on the separation of turbulence and rain effects on satellite communication links. From 1992 to 2001 he participated to Olympus and Italsat satellite propagation experiments, studying the tropospheric effects on electromagnetic waves in12-50 GHz band. From 1991 to 1994 he attended the Doctorate course in electronic and communication engineering at the Politecnico di Milano in the propagation field with a special focus on scintillations. In 1996, in the frame of a grant from Nuova Telespazio S.p.A. di Roma, he participated to the study of propagation aspects for satellite personal communication project IRIDIUM by Motorola. In 1998-1999 he was consultant for Fondazione Ugo Bordoni, Roma, participating to a contract for Intelsat, Washington D.C., U.S.A.. He has been participating in the COST255 ("Radiowave Propagation Modelling for SatCom Services at Ku-Band and Above") and COST280 ("Propagation Impairment Mitigation for Millimetre Wave Radio Systems") European projects on propagation and telecommunications. In the frame of his reseach activity with the Dipartimento di Elettronica e Informazione and of his cooperation with Centro Studi sulle Telecomunicazioni Spaziali, now IEIIT (National Research Council) at the Politecnico di Milano, he participated to 11 research contracts (for 2 of them was responsible for the Politecnico di Milano). Since 1996 he gives lessons (theory or/and exercises) in Electromagnetic Fields and Electromagnetic Waves at the Engineering Faculty of the Università di Brescia, Univercomo and Politecnico di Milano. In 1997, 1999 and 2000 he has been nominated member of Ph.D. Award Committees at the Helsinki University of Technology (Finland), Technical University of Eindhoven (The Netherlands) and the Université Catholique de Louvain (Belgium). In 2000 he was invited to give a lecture (title: "Propagation in the design and planning of radio system") in the "Postgraduate Courses in Electronics and Communications" of the Université Catholique de Louvain (Belgium). In 2001 and 2004 he gave lectures in the Doctoral Telecommunication Engineering course at the Politecnico di Milano. From April 1999 to October 2006 he worked as an assistant professor with the Dipartimento di Elettronica e Informazione of the Politecnico di Milano. Since November 2006 he working as an associate professor with the Dipartimento di Elettronica e Informazione of the Politecnico di Milano.
