C.-K. Ng

Cho-Kuen Ng received the B.Sc. degree from the University of Hong Kong in 1981, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Champaign, IL, USA, in 1982 and 1986, respectively, all in physics. He was a Postdoctorate in high-energy physics phenomenology with the University of Durham, Durham, U.K., from 1986 to 1988, and then a Postdoctorate in computational plasma physics with Cornell University, USA, from 1988 to 1991. Since 1991, he has been a Staff Scientist in the area of accelerator modeling with the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, CA, USA. His research focus is on electromagnetic modeling of particle accelerators and light sources using high-performance computing (HPC), as well as on development and implementation of numerical algorithms for parallel finite element electromagnetics in time domain. He assumes leadership role in the design and management of large-scale software projects for scientific computing and facilitates the incorporation of advanced enabling technology such as numerical solvers and meshing techniques into SLAC electromagnetics code suite ACE3P. He has been Principal Investigator for various collaboration projects with computer scientists and applied mathematicians including the U.S. Department of Energy Scientific Discovery through Advanced Computing (SciDAC). Furthermore, he is a participant in the U.S. Exascale project on advanced accelerator simulation and has great interest in extending HPC electromagnetics beyond particle accelerators to medical devices and industrial sectors.
