Researcher with interests in bridging the physical and digital worlds through "tangible interfaces." Special interest in designing "tangible visualizations," which serve as physical descriptions of complex systems. These often take the form of specialized hardware interaction devices with embedded sensors and displays which physically represent and facilitate interaction with specific problem domains (e.g., computational biology and other computational sciences, network/grid infrastructure, and environmental representations). Also, interested in techniques supporting the open-ended intercombination and composition of such devices, often using mixtures of Prolog, Java, SQL, XML, and grid technologies as a mediation layer.
