个人简介
My approach is do so using advanced neuroscientific tools that give insight into neural circuit function. My larger goal is to combine, over the course of my larger career, the basic neuroscience of circuit computation with my clinical training as a psychiatrist. My current focus is on basic processes during sleep, a process that sits at the interface of psychiatric health and fundamental brain function. While perturbed sleep is a component of many psychiatric diseases, sleep is also known to play a homeostatic role in cortical network function. I have recently used high-density silicon probe recordings in rodents to demonstrate novel details of network homeostasis during sleep and to show that the various portions of sleep – nonREM, REM, microarousals – each play unique roles in this process. I hope to apply similar strategies to better understand other brain states such as mood states or post-treatment states and I hope to describe with better precision the linkages between brain state and treatment response using electrophysiologic and optogenetic approaches.
