个人简介
I joined Imperial College London in June 2019 as a Research Associate in the Child Health Unit, School of Public Health. I have previously worked as a Research Assistant in the Population Health Research Institute at St George's University of London (2012-2019), in the Department of Children, Families and Social Issues at Birkbeck University of London (2004-2012), and at the Leopold Muller Department of Child and Family Mental Health at the Royal Free and University College London Medical School (2001-2004). My educational background includes a PhD in Epidemiology, MSc in Psychological Research Methods, and BSc in Psychology.
Under the supervision of Professor Sonia Saxena, Director of the Child Health Unit, I am leading a longitudinal cohort study of 3,000 children - iMprOVE - that is examining the effects of school-based active mile interventions on children's physical activity, mental wellbeing, and educational attainment, throughout primary school. I have also developed the first Core Outcome Set for primary school-based physical activity interventions using consensus methods with international stakeholder groups.
Over the last twenty years, I have acquired vast experience in quantitative and qualitative research methods through working on several large-scale longitudinal cohort studies examining children's health, development, and wellbeing. I have also led research that has examined the impact of the built environment on physical activity and mental health. Through these studies, I have worked across a variety of settings (homes, schools, health centres) with families, particularly those with lower socio-economic backgrounds and ethnic minority groups. To date, the largest study that I have contributed to was the impact component of the UK government funded National Evaluation of Sure Start that followed up the health and development of over 8000 young children who were living in poverty. The evaluation was led by Professor Edward Melhuish OBE, and the results were widely praised as being of the highest quality and influential in shaping the government’s ‘Every Child Matters’ and ‘Ten Year Childcare Strategy’ policies.
My main research interests are in child development and health, and inequalities in child health particularly related to physical activity, mental health and wellbeing.
