After receiving his first master's degree, in transportation systems, he shifted his focus to machine learning, artificial intelligence and blockchain, aiming at using the power of modern technology to help build a better infrastructure system.
Chen and Anthony Barrs, an MBA candidate at University of California, Berkeley, developed the Hyperlane concept that allows autonomous vehicles to move at high speeds across existing infrastructure networks while distributing demand using a dynamic pricing structure. The Hyperlane concept was awarded first prize in the Infrastructure Vision 2050 Challenge at CONEXPO-CON/AGG in 2017.
