Dr Nugroho's research interest is in fundamental fluid mechanics (both in experiment and numerical simulation), particularly on high Reynolds number turbulent flows, flow controls, drag reduction mechanisms, and rough surface flows. He also looks into environmental flows such as at the effects of biofouling on marine engineering applications (large ships and submarine) and high efficient wind turbine. Dr Nugroho is also involved in several defence based applied research, such as Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle aerodynamics and morphing wings, submarine hydrodynamics, and helicopter landing pad aerodynamics on naval destroyer.
