Bernd Krusche’s group developed an analysis method removing the effect of Fermi motion of nucleons in quasi-free meson production off light nuclei and thus allowed the measurement of meson production off a neutron to be compared to the production off a free proton in a study of isospin effects. More recently the trigger capabilities and readout of the CBELSA/TAPS detector were improved to start an intensive program on meson production off the neutron. Unfortunately, these experiments will now have to be performed without Bernd who pioneered these measurements. Finally one should mention the valuable contributions of the Basel group in studying modifications of nucleon resonance and meson properties in the nuclear medium, connected to the restoration of QCD symmetries and the behavior of matter under extreme conditions.
