His career covers data sciences and omics. He was the first to describe the molecular mechanisms of resistance of three of the main antituberculosis agents (rifampicin, fluroquinolones and ethambutol). Amalio Telenti led and co-led the first genome-wide association studies in infectious diseases (HIV) and was a leading contributor to the development of pharmacogenetics of antiviral agents. Amalio Telenti led the whole genome deep sequencing study of 10,000 human genomes and contributed key publications on the human metabolome and virome. He is a highly cited researcher (over 70,000 citations), an inventor on 15 patents and applications and the recipient of the prestigious Swiss Cloetta Award in Medicine and of the “egregie munia”, life achievement award of the faculty of medicine, University of Oviedo.
