Bio
Astor Toraño Caicoya was born in Asturias, Spain, in 1983. He
received the B.Sc. degree in forestry engineering from the University of Oviedo, Oviedo, Spain, in 2004; the M.Sc.
degree in forestry engineering from the Polytechnic University of Valencia, Valencia, Spain, in 2007; and the M.Sc.
degree in sustainable resource management and the Ph.D. degree in remote sensing of forests from the Technical
University of Munich, Munich, Germany, in 2010 and 2016, respectively.
From 2009 to 2015, he worked at the Radar and Microwaves Institute, German Aerospace Center (DLR), Oberpfaffenhofen,
Germany. His research interests include forest modeling and allometry for the estimation of forest above ground biomass
and the development of algorithms for the characterization of 3-D forest structures from remote sensing (i.e.,
synthetic aperture radar tomography and waveform lidar) data.
