Assad Abbas

Dr. Assad Abbas completed Ph.D. from North Dakota State University (NDSU), USA. He secured Ph.D. scholarship from COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI), Pakistan where he joined his in year 2004 as a Lecturer at the Department of Computer Science. After completing his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from North Dakota State University (NDSU), USA in year 2016, he resumed his services at the CUI as an Assistant Professor. At NDSU, Dr. Abbas conducted excellent research work and as a result, he was nominated for the College of Engineering Outstanding Student Researcher Award in year 2016. Currently, he is also a Member of the Advisory Committee on Cloud Policy constituted by the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications, Pakistan. Dr. Abbas has published over 40 research publications that includes 25 journal articles, seven book chapters, and nine conference publications. Moreover, Dr. Abbas is the editor of two books titled Handbook of Large-Scale Distributed Computing in Smart Healthcare and Fog Computing: Theory and Practice (published by Springer Verlag in year 2017 and John Wiley & Sons in year 2020, respectively). His research has appeared in several prestigious journals, such as IEEE Transactions on Cybernetics, IEEE Transactions on Cloud Computing, IEEE Transactions on Dependable and Secure Computing, IEEE Systems Journal, IEEE Journal of Biomedical and Health Informatics, ACM Computing Surveys, IEEE IT Professional, Journal of Parallel and Distributed Computing, Pervasive and Mobile Computing, and Future Generation Computer Systems. As a result of his excellent research, his publications have received over 1120 citations. Moreover, eight MS students have successfully completed their research dissertations under his supervision whereas four students are currently conducting research under his supervision. Furthermore, eight Final Year Project students’ groups have also completed their development projects under his supervision. Dr. Abbas is also the recipient of the research grant for the establishment of a research facility for pervasive health at COMSATS University Islamabad. Dr. Abbas has served as the referee for over 30 popular journals and as the member technical program committee for several conferences. Dr. Abbas is also the Program Chair of Workshop on IoT based Big Data Architectures and Applications to be held from December 10-13, 2020 at Atlanta, Georgia. Moreover, he is a member of IEEE and IEEE-Eta Kappa Nu (IEEE-HKN).
