Anil V. Kulkarni

Anil V. Kulkarni received the M.Tech. degree in applied geology from the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, India, in 1979 and the M.S. degree in geography from McGill University, Montreal, QC, Canada, in 1987. He received the Ph.D. degree in geology from Shivaji University, Kolhapur, India, in 1995. From 1980 to 2010, he was a Scientist/Engineer with the Space Applications Centre, ISRO, Ahmedabad, India. Since 2010, he has been a Distinguished Visiting Scientist at the Divecha Centre for Climate Change, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India. His research interests include snow and glaciers investigation using remote sensing methods, mass balance modeling, modeling the influence of climate change on the distribution of Himalayan snow and glacier extent, and snow and glacier melt runoff modeling. Dr. Kulkarni received the National Geoscinces Award in 2009 for his outstanding contribution in the field of applied geosciences. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the study the Himalayan glaciers, the Ministry of Earth Sciences honored him with the National Award in Polar Science and Cryosphere in 2014.
