Andrew W. Cross (Member, IEEE) received the B.S. degree in electrical engineering, minoring in mathematics, physics, and music, from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH, USA, and the S.M. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, MA, USA, in 2005 and 2008, respectively. His doctoral thesis focused on quantum error-correcting codes and fault-tolerant architectures for quantum computers. He has been working in the quantum computing field since 2003. He joined IBM Research, Yorktown Heights, NY, USA, in 2013, where he is currently a Research Staff Member and the Manager of the Theory of Quantum Computing and Information Group. He has been recognized by IBM for his contributions to the development of the IBM Q Experience and for authoring early versions of the Qiskit open-source software for quantum computing. He has authored over 30 peer-reviewed articles. His research interests include quantum computing, quantum error correction, fault tolerance, and verification, validation, and control of superconducting qubits.
