Andrew Hemmings received the B.Sc. degree in chemistry from the University College London, U.K., and the Ph.D. degree in biophysics from Birkbeck College, University of London. He lectured at Birkbeck College before joining the University of East Anglia (UEA), Norwich, U.K., as a Lecturer in 1994 and currently holds a Readership jointly between the School of Biological Sciences and the School of Chemical Sciences and Pharmacy. He is interested in the structural basis for the molecular interactions which underpin biological processes. He employs techniques in structural molecular biology and computational biology to study fundamental problems in mechanistic enzymology and molecular recognition. His research group forms part of the UEA Centre for Metalloprotein Spectroscopy and Biology (CMSB) and their work centers on complex metallo- and cofactor-rich proteins.
