Organic Chemistry
Current Research Interests: The research interests of my group involve understanding the fundamental factors that influence the rate and mechanism of glycosyl transfer reactions, such as enzyme-catalyzed hydrolysis of carbohydrate derivatives. Within this broad area of research, we are actively involved in the design and synthesis of novel glycosidase inhibitors. In addition, we are also modifying glycosidase enzymes (in collaboration with Dr. T.J. Borgford) with the aim of enabling the mutant enzymes to transfer unnatural glycosyl analogues onto biologically important glycoconjugate receptors.
